Thessaloniki tips

First time comers

Hi!

This section refers to residents in Aiantos 6 or Efxinou Pontou flat.

Grocery / Supermarket

For your daily grocery and bread you can shop at Ermis which is located at Samakoviou just before the bus stop of bus 15.

If you like to shop for the week or so or more stuff you can visit Masoutis SuperMarket when finishing class at the University. The bus stop for 15 is just outside the super market so you can hop on and get home directly. (Aggelaki 16). (goo.gl/maps/nz29pGfJGGN2)

For bus routes and info on city buses (www.oasth.gr). There is also application available on GooglePlay. In many bus stops there is also telemetric flashing boards showing when the next bus is arriving.

ELTA is the post office in Greece. The post man comes every week and delivers only mail, for boxes you will receive a notice and will have to pick it up from the post office of Panepistimioupoli (on Egnatia street from the central library down on your right just before exiting the campus)

International Calling Cards

If you need to phone home use skype, viber, whatsup or you can also buy prepaid international cards - to use from ote payphones and booths - located all over the city, next to main bus stops, OTE buildings, main streets e.t.c.

Mobile/ Telefon (€5/month)

Buy prepaid connection mobile number as soon as you settle down! This way you will have internet on the go anywhere and airtime using just €5-10/month. (Providers: Wind F2G, Cosmote WhatsUp, Vodafone CU). They are similar but cosmote has better signal!

Your will need your passport and resident info to register in electronic/telecommunication/pc stores all over town, or promoting stands/ girls with promo hats/suit in Aristotelous square near Egnatia/ Tsimiski bus stop and other busy places  with no monthly fee .

Use their mobile application to choose programmes for as little as 5€/ 200', 100 sms, 500 Mgbite and many free minutes/gb as gift.

Hospitals

I always dreaded when I was in a new place the "What if?" and then "How much".

In Greece all people are entitled to free access to Public Hospitals. The AXEPA is the University Hospital located inside the Uni. Gennimatas Hospital is just outside the Uni Campus on Ethnikis Amynis str. Tell them you are student and from a foreign country and need immediate help or be prepared to wait some time to be examined.
